I'm just a man who had a dog

©2010 David Moody

I know she’s resting easy now
Inside this gentle heart
I wonder if she sees me
While I’m falling all apart
She created a place
I’d never have to be alone
When she stepped into this house
It suddenly became a home

We shared the best of everything
Without a single care
As long as we could be together
As long as she was there
She had here very own language
Sometimes I could understand
She was my best friend
But then again, I’m just a man
Who had a dog

  1. They do that, don't they? They wag their tails, sniff and lick your face and worm their way right into our hearts. I'm so sorry this poem is written in the past tense...I guess she's gone. Hope the pain doesn't last too long for you.
